MAT-772 Applied Math Test Out

MAT-772 Applied Math is a course that is required for many programs at Hawkeye. Students in programs that require MAT-772 Applied Math can take the proficiency test to receive full credit for the class and therefore will not need to take the class.

Please work with your advisor to see if this will work for you and your program.

Exam Registration

The exam is offered Monday – Thursday at 9:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. Pre-registration is required.

Students may take the proficiency test once a semester or every 90 days.

Upon passing the exam there is a transcript fee of $150 that will be billed to you.

Requesting Accommodations

Prior to registering for the exam and testing, contact Student Accessibility Services to request accommodations.

After you have met with Student Accessibility Services, contact the Testing Center to schedule your exam date and time.

On the Day of Testing

Students will need to bring the following:

  • Hawkeye Student ID or Valid/Non expired Government Issued ID
  • #2 pencil
  • Basic calculator. No Scientific calculators are allowed.
  • You will check in with your phone using the QR code at the Testing Center.

Preparing for the Applied Math Text Out Exam

Applied Math is a review of basic arithmetic facts. To prepare, review the following concepts to be successful on the test:

  • whole numbers
  • fractions
  • decimals
  • ratio-proportion
  • percent’s
  • powers
  • roots
  • US and metric measurement
  • graphs
  • averages
  • introduction to algebra
  • introduction to geometry including perimeter, area, volume, angles, and triangles

If campus is closed, the Testing Center is also closed. This includes weather-related closings. See scheduled college closings.
